I recently found out that I wont need the sawdust that I got this weekend (all types of wood) to mix with my horse manure. Please advise on how to use as mulch if possible. Or even a convenient way to copmpost as I have very little space left. Maybe a cheap tumbler? Thanks.
Why not soak it down and let it rot into compost???? Mix some manure and wet it all down with molasses water???
No reason you can't use it as mulch - same deal, it will break down slower and work fine as mulch. I use very fine hardwood mulch and look for the wet moldy bags anyway since they break down quicker. My rose garden is an earthworm farm as a result.
Great article, Cap! Well written and easy to understand. Won't this stuff heat up if it's left in a big pile? Like my wood chippings story, I'd hate for this guy to end up with something he hadn't bargained for! I was reading an old book and they referred to green hay stored in a barn heating up and going to flame, burning down the barn! So my story doesn't sound so crazy after all! It happens with other plant products too.
