My soil analysis from Texas Plant & Soil Lab in Edinburg had a recommendation of 1000# / acre (broadcast)for AG gyp in order to bring up the calcium content but not have a drastic effect on the ph (6.6).

In this part of Texas (near Abilene) it seems no one handles lime or gyp for this use. Most stores don't carry it and if they do it is very small bags for possible yard use. I guess that why the common response here is no-one limes out here.

I have found a source in OK City but before I make the commitment to haul in, is there another way to make the improvement in the Calcium? This is for a 30 acre piece of land that we run cattle.

We at Watson Ranch Organics have found that if you start a proper organic program by treating the soil and the plant, Your pH will turn back to normal within 1 year to a 1 1/2 years and should not have problems with pH in the future. If you were to put on lime now it will take the same amount of time to correct. We have customers with perfect pH, one that has not limed in 25 years!
