Last fall I had some landscaping done to my new property. A landscape architect suggested Lacebark Elms around the back patio to provide shade from the SC sun. He said that they would grow to about 35 ft. The landscaping crew placed the trees, but I happened to notice that the tag on the 8 ft trees said "Allee Elm". I was assured that they are the same tree as the Lacebark- but I'm not sure. They are doing very well (A family of robins have taken up residence), but I am concerned that they may outgrow the space. Online I have read they can grow 50 to 60 ft high and 40 ft wide. One of the trees is only 10 ft from the corner of my house, the other 20 ft behind. I would like to know if they can be pruned and managed or is this just an uphill battle. Also, would something like a Yoshino Cherry be a better choice for shade that close to house?
