I have had trouble with weeds in my new garden plot and last spring covered the area with black plastic and left it there until this weekend. I have been told that since the plastic was used for so long the soil is sterile. If this is so, how do I amend it for growing this spring???

Probably the cheapest & quickest thing would be to apply dried or liquid molasses to the area. If your budget allows, use the other soil amendments available. The basic organic program below should help.
