I guess it doesn't matter what the name of the weed is, if you want it dead, you want it dead!
Maybe try 20% vinegar? Wait until it's a little hotter-is this area ever in the sun? Mow when it's sunny, then spray the stronger vinegar. I can't remember if you add a little dish soap to that...will get back...

Ok, seems like you may have a winter weed since it dies in other parts of your yard in the summer? DD says spray b/w Xmas & New Year's w/vinegar, orange oil & soap.
But the weed is here now, so I'd try when it gets hot, since that's when it dies in the rest of your lawn.
Also, DD no longer reccomends 20% vinegar so don't tell him I told you to use it!!
You may be fighting a loosing battle. The north side of any house is usually shady which prevents most all of our grasses from growing strong and dense. Check to see if the weed is spreading in the same direction of the shade from the house or from trees.
One of Mother Nature's rules is no bare dirt. She will cover it with something and apparently that weed likes those conditions. Think about what else might like that spot and plant it. Other alternatives are stone and mulch.

Patty - I do read these you know. 20% vinegar is a problem that I created, or at least allowed to be created. Beck and others started with 99% glacial acetic acid and diluted it down to 20%. Not only is it unnecessarily harsh, it is a petroleum derived product. It is not real vinegar and simply should not be used. Plus the 10% vinegar(made from grain alcohol) works better to kill weeds without causing problems - especially if the entire formula is used. Which is: 1gal vinegar, 1 oz orange oil, 1 tbs molasses and 1 tsp liquid soap.
