In theory it should work. Here's what I did.
I went to Wal*Mart and got an 18-gallon Rubbermaid bin, a small fish tank aerator, an airstone, and the hose to connect the aerator to the air stone. Total cost for all that brand new equipment was about $20, and it makes 15 gallons at a time. You might already have some of that stuff around or could find the aquarium stuff at a garage sale.

I have one of those for keeping minnows alive, but found out it goes thru batteries to fast. The two batteries will not last one fishing outing. Maybe mine is defective. I went to Academy Sports and bought a '12 volt livewell aerator; and cut off the alligator clips and soldered on a connector. I have a 120V - > 12V converted I bought from Radio Shack 20+ years ago. It works great. The aerator has 3 suction feet on the bottom which holds it in place. I fill about 3/4 full a 5 gallon bucket, put in the aerator then put the sock with compost tea fixings in. Turn on the aerator and it foams real good. If I was to buy all the things today I probably would spend about $50 - $75 dollars. Since I don't have time to fish. I use it to aerator compost tea. Like Dchall_San_Antonio says, you may already have most of what you need. I found you use what works best for you and what you can afford.

Gar,
You ought to be ashamed of yourself! No time for fishing??????
This is not something you really want to advertise in public. I suggest that you rectify (sp?) the situation by taking off a few days from work and actually go fishing. The truth be known I should be ashamed of myself for saying anything to you about this....... It's been a while since I have been fishing myself. LOL
