I had rust (caused by a fungus) on my canna leaves last summer. It starts as oranage spots then leaves become brown and crispy. I want to know if anyone has a treatment for this before my cannas begin to grow this spring. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Any fungal problem can be addressed with cornmeal. Soak some horticultural cornmeal in warm water for a couple hours. You can put the cornmeal in some old pantyhose or cheesecloth and swirl it around in the water from time to time while it is soaking. Put the cornmeal water in a spray bottle or watering can and spray it on the leaves. You can also put the horticultural cornmeal in the soil around the plants. Try to keep the soil around the cannas from being too moist.
