chickens can eat cracked corn but I would supplement that with some alfalfa and of course some oyster shell for calcium supplement. Give them all of your vegetable waste and peels, just chop it up and get it to them while its fresh. You can raise earthworms for them and use the worm castings to enrich your soil.
During warm seasons they can eat green vegetation, bugs and worms, seeds, etc.

Chickens are omnivores, not herbivores. Meat is a staple in their diet when they are left to their own devices. Let them out in the garden and they will find plenty to eat.

You can feed you chicken grass. Take a stick let the chicken to the open field and make them eat grass. I'm not kidding, this is an organic food and good for your chicken. Best of luck...
