Not sure I'm ready to take it to that level yet and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the wife would raise bloody hell if one showed up in the house.
Composting toilets are used to great success by the non-profit group Heifer International at their Arkansas training facility. They do not smell, are very economical, and make a whole lot of sense! The ones they have are much simpler, and I'll bet much cheaper, but work just fine. We had no complaints from our group participants...they were intrigued, but no complaints. That is saying a LOT for pre-teen kids.
Does anyone know how much they could save in water costs each year? I'd like to know that! I have seen Mother Earth articles on people who live entirely without paying electiricity, water or other utility bills. They have these in their homes and found them to be preferable to the old style toilets.
