ITS PLANIN" TIME!!!
Its going to be a very busy few weeks. First of all, let me tell you what a lucky man I am. While I am off promoting organics at Marshall Grain last Saturday and talking on the radio with Howard on Sunday my Ms. Daisy was busy planting in the garden. Lets update the numbers: 1200 onions, 600 potatoes, 72 peppers, 72 tomatoes, and so far 1200 green beans with another 1200 to go!
We plan on staggering the bean planting and will be planting more tomatoes and peppers. Now Ms. Daisy is not just throwing this stuff in the ground, she is using different products to plant them with and documenting all this. Right now in the onions you can see differences already with the onions that got soaked in garrett juice and dipped in rock phosphate.
Thank goodness my two landscape guys Gilberto and Hector showed up sunday afternoon to help me finish the rows. They are done now, 32 80 foot rows. The soil is such heavy black clay that we are putting a one inch layer of specialty soil mix on top from Living Earth. This mix contains greensand, expanded shale and compost. In between the rows we are putting a layer of native wood chips provided by my friend David Mizell of Mizell Tree Service.
More to come next week with some pictures as well.
So, what do you do with the vegetables that you don't eat...I mean that's a lot of onions!! Do you sell them at the farmer's market of just give away to neighbors?

this year is are trial year. We will give some away, sell some at the rockwall farmers market and donate the rest to either the rockwall senior center or the local food bank. The long term plan is start a CSA(community supported agriculture) which is where we will sell shares of the garden to individuals to have organically grown produce 32 weeks a year.
