Will 6 to 8 inches of cedar mulch choke out mint?

Probably not but what kind of mint do you have?

Spearmint is what I'm trying to get rid of. Do you have any suggestions? The 6'x15' area is solid mint growth, and I'd like to put it to better use, like planting potatoes, okra, tomatoes or even a salad garden in the space. The roots are thick and deep. I've cut it back as close to the ground as possible (I'm sure by afternoon it will be a solid green-colored mint lawn). This is just a part of a 6,000 sq ft organic garden, which is extremely productive and full of lady bugs, earthworms and other good things. Thank You Very Much

Spearmint is a wonderful herb but as you know quite invasive. The good news is that the rhizomes (underground runners) are usually very shallow and easy to pull out of the ground. Do a little more hand work and enjoy some tasty herb teas and mint juleps.

Drink more Mojitos...that can use up lots of mint!

i concur...i had a huge patch (about 200 s.f.) that I ended up spading up and out, now it's a tidy little 5' sqaure patch. i have to get the runners that quickly grow out from the edges about three times a year, but if you keep at it you can maintain a more tidy area. just pull up on the runners and you can keep them from spreading and they easily pull up out of the ground with out too much trouble.
