I live west of Mineral Wells on the Brazos river. How can I get rid of wild grapevines especially growing on my fenceline. Thank you.

I hope someone has the answer! We have them in our woods & some of the 'stems' are as large as your wrist, they are in trees & choking out some big ones. Where we can get to them, we've cut as close to the ground as we can & of course they are back with a vengence. Combine them w/green briar, poison ivy, VA creeper, honeysuckle & you really have some tree-killing stuff!

the best luck I have had at a weekend place near rockport is to cut them to the ground and when they resprout, let them grow about twelve inches and then ball them up and turn them upside down and spray the bottom of the leaves and the tops also with roundup..... to get the new tender growth and to get the underside of the leaf seems to be the answer.. I have been able to use this method selectively to get rid of the vines...

I try to stay organic but this is a tough problem and sometimes it may be needed..

but,, sometimes, with difficult deals, it may be what will work..

if you want to spray grape vines and other tough stemmed vines with vinegar and orange oil, I guess it will kill it eventually...

I have tried both in rockport..

the R stuff did kill it and the other stuff I got tired of spraying.... it did burn back the leaves but it did not kill it...

You gotta do what you gotta do, but I'll keep the "R" outta my dirt. Our neighbors got rid of their briars/grapevines by constant mowing, but they LIVE there & we only visit our acreage on weekends. Plus we were "Amish" the 1st 2 years & had only had lopers to work with. Now we have an old tractor & bush hog so I plan to spray the briar/grapevine/poison ivy/VA creeper/Honeysuckle w/20% vinegar right after mowing & I'll mark the areas to see if this is effective.

keep hitting the tender new growth...

after you spray and the leaves get burned off, whack em down..

then when it resprouts, hit em again with whatever you want ....

get the lower sides of the leaves if you can also..

I think that allows whatever you use to get into the plant better..

go get em...
