This is the second year grubs have totally eaten the roots off our strawberry plants. We have been totally organic ever since we moved here. The grubworm topic from the "library" seems unhelpful. Any suggestions?

Start applying nematodes now so that next year you won't have the same problem. We started applying nematodes last year for various things and have seen good results this year. While the grubs and such aren't totally eliminated, we're making progress!

Did you know that only about 10% of the grub worms you see are harmful? The rest are beneficial. They aerate the soil and help break down organic matter, same as earthworms. Let us know how the nematodes work for you!

The link posted by khwoz is most helpful, particularly the advise on what kind of nematodes to order, but I need some help with the timing of applying nematodes. It is now late August and the grubs are quite large. Can the nematodes still do them damage, or should I wait and apply nematodes next summer?

From what I understand, if the soil is warm enough (which should be all year in your area) & the soil is kept moist, the nematodes should be fine & will control the grubs whatever their size. You don't need to keep soil wet just somewhat moist.
