I have been coming to this sight for a couple of years now but just joined the crew. I have worked in the green industry for 15 years and have been organic for the past 2. live in San Antonio TX just moved into my first home and really looking forward to having my own yard to work in.

Hi Jamie and anyone else that could perhaps help me. I am soon moving to a small town, south of San Antonio. Will be building my last home there.
Would like to work with an organic, native nursery to plan all aspects of my new home and gardens.
Anyone in South Texas have any suggestions?
All help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that. Since I am used to traveling to the big city for most of my supplies.........Not a problem!
What I am really curious about is a design, consulting company. South Tx is so vastly different from where I am now. North Tx is a whole different story.
My goal is to situate my new house on the land to take advantage of breezes, shade the hot sun and have a series of garden rooms. Very little lawn area and low maintainence.
At present, I have 10 acres........organic for near 20 years........
my new home will be smaller.........still in the country......and organic.
Will be moving soon and start building new home. Any suggestions would be so greatfully accepted.

Hi Brenda. Sounds like quite a plan with the new home and all. From your description of desired features, it occurs to me to ask if you're familiar with any of the passive solar design work developed in the late '70's to mid-'80's? Though many new materials have been introduced since then (that may acutally enhance desired performances), the design concepts appear to me to have remained sound. It may be interesting to raise the passive solar design topic with prospective builders and get their responses. Some personal study on your part will do wonders to help you evaluate the quality of their responses. Though I'm new to the Ground Crew, I've been in the building trades since childhood with study and experience in this area. Might be interesting to see what's on the web on this topic; I'm going to check that myself and see what's new. Kindest regards, Denny.
