I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post - but these pigeons are most definitely pests!

Does anyone know of a good way to get rid of pigeons roosting in a barn? I'm cleaning up a covered arena, and there are probably 30 pigeons roosting either inside or under the attached canopy - I need them gone! A friend has offered to come over with a shotgun - but is there any other way of relocating them, so they don't return?

Thanks!

Some people have success with the fake owl or fake hawk perched in the general area where the pigeons roost.

Thanks Sandi - we've tried that, also rubber snakes in the roof vents, but it's not working! :(

Guess I should have been more specific about the barn - it's a steel building with 24 stalls and a covered arena, about 35' high.

We do have barn cats, but they can't get up to where the pigeons roost, on the steel rafters.

This was in the library on the home page:

Bird Problem

Q: Birds have taken up residence in my house at the roof overhang. The entrance hole is now large enough to invite squirrels and rodents into the roof and attic. What can I do to evict the birds without harming them? D.N., Plano.

A: Try spraying the birds with hot pepper tea or Lemon Joy soap. It will not hurt them long term, but the temporary injury from the oil in their feathers will encourage them to find another place to mess up.
