Let me start by apologizing if I've put this post in the wrong forum. It's not really about a tree but, rather, a stump. If there's a better place to post, please let me know. Thanks!

So... we have (well... we had) an oak tree in our front yard which we have cut down completely to the ground, since it was planted right on top of the sewer line by the previous owners.

We plan to use the organic method of drilling holes in the stump, then pouring syrup into the holes, covering with mulch and keeping it all damp.

Does anyone here have personal experience with using this method? The stump is about 10" diameter, so I'd like to know about how long we should expect it to take for beetles and such to break it down enough that we can start pulling/digging rotted chunks out of the ground.

We would eventually like to plant some veggie garden in that spot in the yard, but we'd sure rather not have to chop or use the chain saw to get it done.

If you want to plant vegetables in that location, I'd recommend doing it right now! Leave the stump in place and make a raised be right over it.
