Hi-
I did a search, but didn't find any hits... I'm starting a Square Foot Garden (SFG) (http://www.squarefootgardening.com/). Seems so simple that even I couldn't screw it up, but I had some questions.
Mel's Mix is: 1/3 Blended Compost, 1/3 Pete Moss and 1/3 Coarse Vermiculite
1- My question is: What's Howard's mix for someone who lives in South Texas (San Antonio)? I know Pete Moss isn't the best & has anti-microbial properties... Should I stick with Howard's potting soil formula (http://www.dirtdoctor.com/organic/garden/view_question/id/2061/) or try something else (like native soil mixed w/ worm castings, fertilizer and compost)? I live near Garden-ville & Fertile Garden Supply so I have access to good organic products.
2- I plan to build my raised bed garden with bricks. They were left in the garage by the previous owner. I only plan for the raised bed to be 6" to 8" tall (probably 3 rows of bricks tall). Thoughts on using bricks? Besides staggering them, is there anything else I should do? I plan to just put one on top of the other and fill it in.
Thanks in advance for your help. I guess I should know this, but I'm still a newbie and would like various opinions. If you get a chance, please check out my videos: http://www.youtube.com/user/OrganicTexas
