They can take a little morning sun, dappled sun but for the btter part of the day require shade. Use a lot of organic matter when preparing the beds and they like to be kept on the moist side....not soaking wet though. They will droop when they are too dry.

I have mine planted in bright shade. I used rock to prepare a raised bed. I followed the basic soil amendment program and added lots of compost. I was surprised they did so well! They are on a drip because they have to be watered everyday....The raised bed drains well. I planted them with giant elephant ears. I liked the result.
