Post subject: identify and get rid of long runner-strands of unknown creep

I have a type of weed or grass that has permeated my lawn and would like to know what it is and how to get rid of it. I can only describe it as a very long-stemmed creeper type of weed that wants to stick to the dirt when I try to pull it up. The long viney-stem seems to go on forever along the top of the dirt but it also is rooting itself along the way and so lots more of it is growing. My neighbor calls it RUNNER GRASS and says its very hard to get rid of. Can anyone tell me what I'm dealing with or do I need to pay for a lawn care company to tell me? Ideas are appreciated.

weedfreak, Is it possible to post a picture of your weed? That way we can determine if it is a weed or the St Augustine grass, as Guest has suggested. One nice thing about St Augustine grass is when it spreads it kills out all the weeds in its path.
