This is my first attempt at growing tomatoes and beets in a grow box in my apartment. I'm using Miraclegrow soil and try to give my plants six hours of sun a day. These tiny flies are taking over and my seedlings look like they're in a state of suspended animation. They haven't died, but they haven't grown either for weeks. I've tried the weak-tea-soap-listerine mixture to keep the soil free of unwelcomed guests. I'm feeling very discouraged. Anyone have any advice?

I was watering them every three days when the soil started drying out. It's warm in my apartment. My father, who has the green thumb, says he thinks that might be the problem. The beet seeds shot up after three days, then keeled over and shriveled up. It's been quite discouraging, especially since I was told beets are fast growing and easy to grow. I have two tomato plants that are starting to grow nicely, now their leaves are turning slightly yellow. This after ten weeks and some fertilizer (1/2 teas in one gallon of rain water. Yes, I actually captured rain water thinking the chlorine was hurting the seedlings.)
Your thoughts? Thanks a million for your help! Dawn
how much light are they getting? do you have a grow light? or just natural light?
