We plan to apply horticultural cornmeal to our yard, monthly, to fertilize it. We don't have a broadcast spreader.

Is it absolutely necessary to use one? Or is it okay to figure the square footage and how much of the cornmeal to use and then scatter it by hand, being careful to spread it all around?

Thanks!
