Hello. I bought my first home, built in 1958, last fall. The backyard is filled w/ivy and another trailing plant. My ash tree has been really sick and I had to have an arborist treat it. The ivy has been removed and I can tell the ash is happier already. I want to replace the current groundcover(s) with dwarf mondo grass. Could you please tell me how to kill the ivy and be able to replant the area as soon as possible.
This is my first posting. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Ivy usually isn't hard to remove by hand:
just pull it out!
That method is also easiest on the tree.
I think mondo grass is supposed to be very easy to grow, the kind of thing you just stick in the ground, pour on a little water, & wave your hand over it & chant, "Grow, O Mystical Green Thing, while I turn my back on you & continue with my real life."
