I live in Jacksonville, FL (Northeast FL) and have a lawn that suffered from a fungus which killed most of my St Augustine. I overseeded with winter rye which looks beautiful but I know I will loose it when the hot weather comes.
Looking for options. Does anyone know if Buffalo grass might do well in Northeast FL? We have sandy, slightly acidic soil. The yard is mostly sunny (just one tall Sycamore tree which shades some of the front yard).

I would prefer grass seeds rather than sod. To resod the whole yard would cost a fortune.

Any thoughts about Bermuda? There wil still be some Saint Augustine that will come back after winter.

I'm open to suggestions!!

The sandy acid soil might be more of a problem than the weather. Buffalo likes the heavier clay soils. You might try some but also use some Bermuda grass seed and buffalo. There's is no problem having the two grow together. Where you fertilize and water less, the buffalo will dominate - if it can handle the soil.

Thanks Howard - that's a good point. My soil is quite sandy and acidic.
Do you (or any Ground Crew memebr) have any thoughts about Centipede grass?
My next option would be to use Centipede grass seeds once the soil gets warm enough (about mid April).

Also if I put down CGM now, would it impede the germination of those seeds a couple of months from now?

That should be a long enough gap.
