I have a 1/4 acre garden. It is more than I need, but I use my antique farm equipment on it, so I need it large enough so I can have some fun. After the soil prep next spring, I was going to put half of the garden in pumpkins and put removable pig fencing and a piglet in the center of the pumpkins.
If I rotate the vegies to that side of the garden the following year, does anyone see any problem with bacteria or anything? I am in Wisconsin if that makes a difference. Thanks, Craig

Would you consider chickens or ducks instead of the pig? I would be concerned about disease from fresh mammal manure right in there with the fruit. If you use Khaki Campbell ducks, you get lots of good eggs, too.

In any case, I would like to have some good, finished compost in there with the animals.

As an alternative, what about setting up a 3-way rotation? Put the pug in one season, let the area lie fallow one season to compost the manure, and only plant in the third season. You could layer hay over the manure, or spray it with compost tea to encourage quick composting. I'm assuming the pumpkins are to feed the piglet, not you
