Yes you grind it. Kitchen Aid has an attachment for grinding grain for their mixers, but I'm not sure how much you could make in practice.

What are you doing with your cornmeal? When you grind corn to make cornmeal you can grind it very course to very fine. I grind organic corn very coarsely for my chicken feed and very fine for medicinal use or baking. You would want it a medium size if you apply it dry to your yard.
