I have a small water fountain. I thought that w/the pump, that i wouldn't have problems w/the the crazy critters. While moving the fountain, i discovered the water to be thick w/the squirming infants. Is there anything that I can add to the water to reduce the infestation.....a little salt, orange oil? I suppose I could add a few minnows. The birds like to use the fountain for drinking and bathing. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Many thanks, g eoff
went looking for the mosquito dunks at a local home improvement store. found them! all of my water features now have a floating dunk. the store also carries a similar product that is less visible called Mosquito Torpedo. haven't used it yet....want to ck the internet for a comparison of the products. the "torpedo" shows to be safe for plants, fish, birds, and mammals. would prefer to use it due to it sinking and not floating. will provide an update after completing a little more research.
was concerned about the use of the a product to control mosquito larvae. found internet site w/posting from the epa. very informative. i encourage everyone to research the "ingredients". appears that the makeup of the two products i have found at the local home improvement store for control of mosquito larvae are safe for life! read up on the ingredients. "read a little....learn a little. read a lot.....learn a lot!"
