I almost bought a multi layered compost bin from a big catalog company, then read further that it took a year to complete the process. I thought that was a long time. Maybe not? Anyway, I would rather build my own. Seems like everyone just puts up a barrier and throws stuff in. I'm a small female and not able to turn the compost very successfully. Any hints, ideas, plans out there ? Thanks.
I can relate to the female/lack of upper body strength curse. One thing you can do to help is to have 2 compost bins, side by side. Instead of "turning" the pile, you can pitchfork the pile in increments you can handle to the other bin. I find that easier than trying to manhandle the whole thing.
Depending on where your living it can take a year for compost pile to make Black Gold!,and don't let being a women make you not turn your pile.I've got a pretty good pile and I use a pitch fork with 6 forks and even my 17 year old daughter can turn it.Also no body says that you have to turn your pile, just feed it and water it and let the bugs do the rest.
