This is a Cherokee Purple variety. The outside looks kinda funky but the inside meat is firm, pink-purple, with a complex winey, sweet flavor. It is really unique and delicious. This is a great variety for our area and does reasonably well under our scorching Dallas sun.

We just returned from a trip to the Olympic Peninsula and they grow marvelous out there as well.

I have to agree, Tony. Last night we had a simple plate of slices, dressed with just a light sprinkle of kosher salt. On the plate were our homegrown, organic Tigerella, Yellow Pear, Wild Tomato, Celebrity, Sweet 100, and Cherokee Purple. Cherokee Purple was hands down the tastiest tomato and a brawl nearly erupted among our family over the slices.

They also seem to be resisting splitting, bugs, and growing beautiful large fruit compared to what I am used to here in Dallas. Hope mine will keep producing throughout the fall--love them!

I've still got some Cherokee Purple seeds. Am I too late to plant them? ps I've added hay to worm bin 102 ambient. 84 under hay. Bin is in shade.

I think it would be too late to plant the tomato seeds...but sounds like you have a good worm bed opportunity. They might be ok under the straw as long as you don't over feed them or put "hot" items like grass clippings or un-composted manure in.

I recently had a Japense Black Trifele and I plan to grow those next spring, it was delicious
