It's traditional in the South for folks to put up martin houses, since martins eat mosquitoes. At our farm, there are hundreds of martins hunting and eating skeeters. Hummingbirds also, apparently eat skeeters.
Some organic gardeners say there's no such thing as a pest problem, only a lack-of-predator problem. I don't know if that's always 100% true, but it does help to encourage pest predators.
Also there's a product, I think it's called Mosquito Barrier, that uses garlic. You spray it all around with a hose-end sprayer. Faint scent of garlic, gone in less than a day, but repellant effect lasts for weeks or months. Very effective stuff. I think it also wards off ticks and fleas and who knows what else.

Protection is very necessary. Natural ways are helpful for the mosquito control but it is necessary to find permanent solution. Time to time spray and cleanliness is very important. Mosquitoes carry diseases and spread certain illnesses to humans, such as malaria, yellow fever, and dengue or break bone fever or dandy fever. The female, which drinks blood, can carry disease from one animal or human to another as they feed.
