Our neighbor has several pecan trees. This year is a bumper crop for his pecans. Not sure how good they will be, but his trees are loaded. However, I'm thinking that because of the rain and his DAILY watering ( he has a small garden that he waters) his trees are so weak that the branches are literally breaking and stripping themselves from the trunk. Should he prune these broken branches now or wait until the pecans and the broken limbs fall? To my knowledge he doesn't fertilize, etc. He just lets nature take its course...and she is.

If the branches were weak, I would think from a safety standpoint that he should trim those branches off. (Be sure and leave the branch collar). Should high winds occur, the branches could come off resulting in damage to someone's roof, car or whatever (or whomever) else may be in the area.

If the branches were not so weak, it would be best to wait until winter when the tree is dormant and the pecans have fallen.
