My husband and I recently moved into a new house. Bermuda sod was laid in December. We were told not to use any fertilizer for the first year. Is this correct and would that also apply to organic fertilizer? What are some products we could use and not damage the new grass? Thanks!

That's about the worst advice I've seen in print. Once the bermuda roots are knit into the ground, you should be fertilizing it every other month to keep it from thinning out. You can go to monthly fertilizer for the best green.

If you can get soy bean meal you can apply that at 20 pounds per 1,000 square feet every month. If you can't get that or it is too expensive, you could use alfalfa pellets at the same rate or corn meal at 30 pounds per 1,000. If you prefer commercially bagged organic fertilizer, you can apply that at 20 pounds per 1,000.
