Just wanted to say hi from Canada and i am looking forward to some real helpful guidance with controlling weeds and crabgrass in my grass. We are not allowed to use any pesticides this year, it has been banned. I'm hoping you's can all help.
I read somewhere that there is a formula of Howards that uses orange oil??, vinegar and something else. I cannot find orange oil here, or maybe someone knows of a company that does sell it? (would be very greatfull), and also how the mixture is measured. (also is it safe for pets).

Try vinegar (20% acidity if you can find it) and a spoonful of molasses to start. The point of the orange oil is to dissolve any waxy coating that some plants have on the leaves. The vinegar needs to touch the plant.
Weed control is best done with proper cultural practices. 1. Water deeply and infrequently (once per week in the summer's hottest heat and less often the rest of the year). 2. Mow at your mower's highest setting. 3. Fertilize regularly.
Doing these three things will discourage weed seeds from germinating and taking root.
How high are you mowing? How often are you watering?
