Two shumard oaks, both 3" trunks, one planted this year and one two years ago. Leaves seem to have small round red spot/hole that spreads to kill the entire leaf. Leaf dead areas turn red/brown. We have has an extremely/dry hot summer though other oaks in areas do not seem to be suffering.
I also planted 10, 3/4 to 1" oaks in spring 03, staked and watered and have only 1/2 on one left(few leaves). I assume just too much hot wind.

Any signs that this might be a bug with the munchies?
I'd use some foliar feed with garlic/pepper tea in it. That'll boost the tree's health at the same time it runs off possible bad bug issues.
IF conditions have been rough like this a few years runnin in your area, I'd stick to Fall Planting. You'll have better results, especially with trees.
