Oxblood lilies in bloom. Oxblood or schoolhouse lilies are starting to make their show in Dallas and lots of other places across the South.

How about you northern gardeners - does this plant work for you? It is basically invisible the rest of the year but a nice surprise as Fall nears and kids start back to school. That's where the second name came from.
