Do you have to be careful with what you plant around roses? Stepables.com in their "finding a plant" questionaire asks if your plant will be planted around roses.... so, I'm wondering if there are certain rules to follow?

Hey--I've got an antique (Mme Isaac Pereire) that has mint growing under it, Scullcap growing next to it, & I've also put sprouty garlic (from the garlic keeper, you know, w/ green sprouts when you don't eat it fast enuf) that I just stuck in the ground next to the roots. The garlic is supposed to repel pests, but it may be working in conjunction w/ the mint. I do know that except for some minor blackspot, I've had no problems w/ it, other than donating blood when I attempt to prune it. The blooms are fabulous in the spring & sporadically throughout the year, & the fragrance is awesome. My mom says the scent reminds her of roses in her neighborhood in Chicago 60 yrs ago. Hope this helps.
