I'm a 1st time veg gardener and about to give it up. My tomatoes are being eaten by rats. Traps with peanut butter have caught nothing all week. I have dogs and also grandkids come to visit, so am afraid to use poison and also doubt rats would go for poison when they can eat my juicy tomatoes instead.

Have you seen the rats so you are sure of what you're trying to kill? Rats usually like to eat something with more protein than tomatoes.

Try baiting a trap with tomatoes.
