Does anyone have any suggestions for fasteners to attach rose canes to trellis, etc.? I have tried twist ties, panty hose and wire. They all seem to rub an open spot on the cane. Thanks in advance. Laurie
Thank you, I might have tied them on too tight. I haven't tried to do this in a while. I have a climber that I have finally, after many years, trained to go up the wall and espalier(sp) under the eaves. I have no experience with this except what I have read. Laurie

I have an arbor with lattice going up the two sides. I try and 'weave' the canes that are going straight up through the lattice here and there while they are young and pliable. That holds the plant fairly tight to the lattice naturally. I don't fight the canes that are naturally going the opposite way very much. If they get too bad, I'll cut them off. I also use a roll of green light plastic ribbon that you find at the nursury stores and loosely tie canes to the lattice.
Another approach I use with my climbers on my wooden fence is to use an old black soaker hose and cut it to length (6ft?) and slip a wire through it and wrap the hose around the base of all of the canes about 2-3 ft up from the ground and tie the wire to the fence with screw eyelets.
This supports 100% of the canes and then I can work on training as it gets higher.
It really is not noticeable from a distance and it is very durable.
Just some ideas...
