We have heard on Howards Show and read where people are looking for a solution that will help keep dog urine from killing grass. For the past three years we have been giving our Golden Reteiver tomato juice in her dog food. We feed her Munster Dog food and Missing Link. To that we add approximately 1/2 cup of tmato juice. In the past three years, we have not had any dead grass where she has gone. It does work.

I'm not a believer in the idea that changes in feed will work for every dog in every lawn. The problem seems to be that concentration of urea in one place overloads the soil microbes with nitrogen. I have tried balancing the nitrogen with extra carbon (in the form of table sugar) with good results. I scatter a handful over each spot and a few weeks later they seem to be restored.

I have also had continuing problems with some of those spots. At first I thought it was due to the dog peeing in the night and a fungus getting involved. Now I'm not sure it is not insects. The grass does not seem to respond to a corn meal treatment or a compost and corn meal treatment. That indicates bugs to me.
