What equipment do you use to spread 500 pounds per acre of corn meal or alfalfa pellets on 50 acres of turf three times a year? The 50 acres are not all attached so there is a trailer involved, too.
Surely there is some kind of small farm implement with at least a 100 pound hopper that you can drag around and broadcast a reliable, even coverage and not take all day per acre.
I find that corn meal tends to stick to itself and doesn't want to flow through the hopper on garden variety whirly broadcasters. Maybe if the rotating scraper on the bottom had an S shape, or maybe a double S shape, it would keep the stuff agitated and flowing better.

Dave: I have tractor with broadcast spredder that I use with grass seed and corn meal so I can see when it is coming out and it works just fine. It does have a device in the bottom that churns up all the stuff so that it comes out with out missing a beat.

We just bought a 175lb spread that is pulled behind an ATV or lawn tractor. We bought it at Tractor Supply. We haven't used it yet but I'm sure it will work. Sometimes combining amendments will make the spreading easier. For example, lava sand with cornmeal.
We are doing the same type of spreading on 5-10 acres. Let us all know how it goes for you.
Happy Spreading!
