Marti, I had to actually laugh out loud about your JR terriors! Thanks for a good laugh.
I have been warring with squirrels for 20 years. I had tried everything mentioned and many more to no avail. I even bought the squirrel proof bird feeders, which the birds hated. The birds loved the old cheap plastic ones and so did the squirrels.
I had just about given up when my son brought home an outside cat. It had been my experience in the past that cats outside did not live long so we always kepts ours in the house. But this cat has lived a long time outside and keeps the squirrels away. The only problem is that she also catches & kills some birds. Is there ever a good solution

I'm over by TCU in FW, have lots of trees & squirrels. I also have a 1970 copy of Joy of Cooking, in which is given explicit directions (illustrated, too) for skinning squirrels. Supposed to use them in Brunswick stew, I think. I put lots of cayenne pepper in my tray feeder, sprinkled coyote urine (puts my cats' back hair up) all around & sat back to watch. Squirrel scooted up the pole, stuck his nose in, jumped straight up, spun in the air & landed about 10 ft away from the feeder. Now they just wait for the big fat white wing doves to knock it out on the ground. I also tried a wrist slingshot (my sweet hubby bought it), but after thumping one w/ raw peanuts & watching it not leave, lost my heart for that. Don't mind using it on the 'possums that like to wander around. Yes, I am in town, but apparently the local wildlife is doing just fine. No skunks yet;a few raccoons.
