I have several containers (more containers than lids) that have lots of fresh rain water. what can I spray on top that will keep the little pests from propigating and allow me to use this water in a couple of weeks to water potted plants.

there are mosquito dunks that you can drop in there. They will not harm birds.

I used to keep a small piece of a dunk in my bird bath. It worked great!
