Does anyone have any experience growing TIF 419 Bermuda grass (sod) on shallow rocky soil? I have about a half acre lot in Midlothian and need to water every week to keep the stuff alive and I still have brown areas that don't green up until the cooler weather and rain comes. I have put three truck loads of mushroom compost on the yard. It seems to help, but only on an interim basis. [/quote]

We all have to water every week to keep our grass alive. Were you told something different?
If you want to change you might consider a green ground cover. Monkey grass is dark dark green and hardly takes any water. It can be mowed or left alone.

You may have to water several times a week. The most important thing is to water deeply; not often. In this heat, you cannot get by with once a week if you want a lucious lawn.
