Weed Wacker doing a number on your tree trunks

If you buy a 10' lenght of 4" Dia. Thin Wall Sewer Pipe [H/D SKU # A188-499 @ $6.50], it can be cut easly with a hack saw, into 9-12" lenghts to go around the tree trunk. To install, cut one wall of the pipe lenghtwise.

Pipe will curl up on it's self making it a smaller Dia. but that's OK. As the tree trunk grows in size, the pipe guard will easly exspand with the tree's growth.

If you don't like the white color of the pipe, it can be painted with Krylon "Fussion" spray paint made for plastic furniture.

I've installed these guards on the trees at our neighborhood park to keep the City dudes from Wacking the trees so badly.

Good idea for those who have vegetation growing right up to the tree trunk. You do not leave the pipe there do you?

No, one does leave it there unless they forget. LOL
I have found that most young trees are planted and folks let the grass grow around the trunk until they decide to put in a flower bed.
Most forget to mulch, but even then, the grass will make it's way in.

Remember the pipe is split, and is easly removed and will not restrict the growth of the trunk.

Yes, people put those flower beds around the trees. The tree usually grows in spite of it, but not as well as it would without all the extra dirt piled up on its trunk. Although it can take up to 20 years for the roots in search of oxygen to girdle around the trunk, the tree life is cut short. Flowers need more water than trees and this can cause problems as well.

The pipe guard is not buried but placed on the ground. Grass or mulch will keep it in place. The thin wall PVC expands very easy.
