Found one on one of my tomato plants as I was trying to adjust the vine on the cages. I about touched it and screamed! How do they get to my garden?
How do I get rid of them, do they lay eggs, will more come? I have bird feeders in my garden where birds frequent but these things are camo'd very well! My dad picked it off and smashed it, but I hate killing them even though they are evil!

They are layed by a moth and yes you may get more. To stay organic, you just pick them off when you see them. That's part of having a diverse eco-system devoid of chemicals.

I sprayed with Safer's BT. As soon as the spray hit the worms (I had 5), they arched up and stopped eating. I watched them every hour for a two days. After several hours they began to move around so I could not tell which one was which anymore, but I could tell that no matter where they were, they had not eaten anything. During the second day I noticed one had turned blackish green. I could not find any of the others. They are presumed dead.

They can strip a plant very fast so you must be vigilant. Spray the entire plant as soon as you see one worm. BT is a bacterial disease that kills caterpillars, so it is a natural product. It is harmless to birds, fish, and mammals.
