We live north of Granbury, Texas and have Carolina Buckthorns which have come up naturally. We have two more mature Buckthorns and several saplings springing up. Can we transplant these saplings? They are approximately 1 ½ to 3 feet tall. We would like to move them out of the mowing area into an area where we don’t need to mow. If we can transplant them, what time of year would be best and how should we take care of them after transplanting them. I would guess we need to make sure not to plant them too deep and look for the flare?

That's right. Just wait for the nice orange fall color and then move them with the natural techiques and they will do fine. Glad you like this plant as much as I do.
