To start my travel and product forum, I could not think of a better place to begin then right here in Dallas at the ONLY certified organic botanical garden in Texas. The Texas Discovery gardens located at Fair Park is quite the hidden gem. Besides maintaining this garden organically, they specialize in Texas natives, including the Benny Simpson demo garden. The gardens are open year round and are available for rentals. Randy Johnson (pictured in the funny hat) is the head horticulturalist at the gardens and he is an amazing person. His knowledge of Texas natives will astound you. Randy heads the spring plant sale in May and the Native plant selection is amazing.








The big news at the Discovery Garden is the opening this year of the Rosine Smith Sammons Butterfly House and Insectarium. This one of a kind display will be the home to over 100 species of butterflies and many other insects from around the word! Education is one of the main goals at the Discovery Gardens so bring the kids and sign up for one of the many educational classes offered year round. volunteer opportunities are available as well since this is a non-profit organization.
