what if any benefit is there to using agricultural lime (gardening lime) in compost. I know some people who use it for odor control in their horse stalls and chicken coops and they believe it also benefits the compost pile when they clean out the stall/coop. I use zeolite to provide my odor control.

Liming and sulfur products are best used directly in soils, not compost piles.

The extreme swings in pH from using these products in active aerobic composting piles, can actually hinder and harm the powerful beneficial composting bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, protozoa, etc., that are necessary for decomposing organic matter into humates in composting.

Besides mature compost always has a near neutral pH anyway.
Also mature compost buffers and balances soil pH over time by continous use.
