just purchased a couple bags of CGM for spring 2004. price paid was over $50. thats 50 cents a pound!!! ouch!

just watching my back pocket.

It's more like a dollar per pound down here. If you find the right store you can get a 50 pound bag for $23, but most places it's 30 pounds for $30.

$22.00 for 50lbs at Rhode's was the best I found in my area.

It seems that prices for everything has gone up.

My grass was so green all season long.

Wholesale CGM prices are quite a bit higher now than they were last year. Basis Minneapolis, the average monthly bulk price for 60% protein CGM for 2003 was about $235/ton. Last week, it was about $345/ton. CGM prices have softened a little over the last several weeks as more supply has come into the market. Part of the price increase is from the price of corn, which is higher now than in all of 2003. March Chicago corn was around 2.20/bu in October; today it closed at 2.90/bu. The soybean meal pricing is more telling. March Chicago meal was around $160/ton in July; today it closed at about $280/ton. March Chicago Soybeans traded down to about 5.20/bu in July; today they closed at 9.29. It appears there has not been a corresponding rise in the price of animal protein feed ingredients. One inference I would draw from those price trends is that the mad cow disease jolt combined with the avian influenza outbreaks have pumped vegetable protein feed ingredient prices that already were on the move some. Consumption figures in the current time frame are harder to come by, but I would expect them to verify that inference. I don't believe crushing of the new crop South American soybeans will begin until about April, so there still could be upward pressure on soymeal prices, and correspondingly on CGM prices. Energy and transport costs will enter into that some also.

CGM is 21.95 for 50 lbs. at Roach Feed Store in Garland. That's the cheapest I've seen it.

Anyone have a "best price" for the San Antonio Area? Dchall_San_Antonio any pointers?

Ful-O-Pep feed store on Rigsby at W.W. White Road just inside Loop 410 about a mile. That's on Hwy 87 out of town on the south east side. They sell a bag for $20 but I'm not sure what size bag (30 or 50 pounds).
