I have recently moved into a house with mondo (monkey) grass that has been mowed repeatedly and therefore very short. With proper care, will this grass grow "tall" again (within a timely manner) or does it need to be replaced?

thanks...........

Mondo grass is either tall or short by nature. You might have the short variety. It is also very slow growing, so give it a few months to see what it looks like.

Thank you for your response. This grass is so "short" that it is lawn mower cut level--so I don't know if it is really short or tall. Any growth will be taller. I will continue to nurture it and hope it makes a recovery for next summer.

Look up dwarf ophiopogon and see if it looks like what you have. If so, this is a slow, low growing type of mondo grass. I have seen it used as a lawn once, being mowed about once a month. It was in the back yard with hardly any traffic and it did well.
If you have the larger variety that has been mowed short, wait till this spring and the new growth will shoot out and let you know.
