This year I sowed several rock rose seeds that I collected off my plant from last year. The plants that came up look completely different from the original plant. The leaves are similar, but the blooms are orchid and tubular as opposed to the flat pink flower; and they are shooting off the single base stem. I am puzzled about the difference. I am sure the seeds came from the original plant. Has this ever happened to anyone before or any thoughts on what happened?

I have rock roses that sow themselves each year and have never had that happen.

I hope someone has an idea of what happened...I would like to know myself.

Sounds pretty anyway. :?

Usually, if a plant from a seed of the parent looks different, the parent was hybridized in some way, either through breeding or accidentally. I don't know that much about rock roses, but this would be my guess.
